Jericho

JERICHO

And the Lord said to Joshua: “See! I have given Jericho into your hand, its king, and the mighty men of valor”
Josh. 6:2 (NKJV)

Jericho was a strong city with two walls surrounding it. The walls were made of brick, stone and mud, and they were 6 to 12 feet thick. Guards were positioned on the walls and also at the mighty double gates that led into the city. Jericho sat upon a hill and they had an earthen mound surrounding the walls. The people of Jericho had heard about the mighty miracles God had performed, such as drying up the Jordan River so the Children of Israel could cross over. Jericho was on lock-down awaiting the arrival of the Israelites. Jericho appeared to be an impossible city to conquer.

God visited Joshua and told him that He had given them Jericho. He commanded Joshua and the men of Israel to march around the city one time every day for six days. Seven priests carrying seven trumpets of rams horns were to go before the ark of the Lord which represented God’s presence. On the seventh day, they would march around Jericho seven times and the trumpets would be blown. The people would shout a shout of triumph and praise to God for what He was going to do. The walls tumbled down before them.

God brought Jericho down, not the blasts of the trumpets, nor the shouts of the people. Do you have a Jericho in your life, such as an illness, job loss or a family matter? Give it to God and He will work just as miraculously in your life as He did at Jericho.

Wait on the lord! Jericho was not destroyed in one day. Your Jericho may also take seven days, or it may take seven months or even seven years. Be patient.

Do not forget to shout. Praise the Lord for what He is going to do. Paul tells us in Philippians 4:6, “Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God,” Many thanks to God for what He will do!

Heavenly Father,
As surely as You brought down the walls of Jericho, You can bring down walls in my life. Help me patiently wait. Thank You, amen!
