WHAT ARE YOU SEEKING
But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and
All these things shall be added to you.
Matt. 6:33 (NKJV)
Do you ever worry about having enough money to make it, especially with inflation? In the preceding verses, Jesus commanded us not to worry, and He explained that since God is ourloving Father He will certainly provide the necessities of life such as food and clothing. Heprovides for the birds and flowers, and His children are of more value than them. Our focus should not be on the material things of this world, but we should seek the kingdom of God.
This is accomplished when we sacrifice of our time and money. We also witness to the unsaved and we demonstrate a holy life as people who trust God for life’s provisions. Our obedience brings glory to God.
Once we seek for the things of God, then “these things”- food, clothing… – will be given to us.God will supply the needs of those seeking to serve Him, not themselves.
There were some Jews who let the house of God fall apart because they were materialistic, but they never seemed to have enough. Why? “You have sown much, and bring in little; You eat, but do not have enough; You clothe yourselves, but no one is warm; and he who earns wages, earns wages to put into a bag with holes…You looked for much, but indeed it came to little; and when you brought it home, I blew it away.” (Hag. 1:6-9). They did not put God first, and He caused them to do without.
Many people use Matthew 6:33 as their life verse, but do they really seek for God’s glory? Are they consumed with the things of this world even to the point of discouragement? Are they committing the sin of not trusting God, otherwise called worry? Let us not be like the Jews of Haggi’s time. Let us seek after God and His righteousness!
Precious heavenly Father,
We are a worried people, and we tend to get stressed about so much. Forgive us for not trusting You as our provider. May we seek for Your kingdom and not our own. Thank You, amen.
