He Has Called Me Friend

HE HAS CALLED ME FRIEND

By Carolyn Dale Newell

“No longer do I call you servants, for a servant does not know what his master is doing; but I have called you friends, for all things that I heard from My Father I have made known to you.”

John 15:15 (NKJV)

I would like to introduce you to my best friend, Jesus Christ. I am honored that He calls me friend. He is always there for me. When I call upon Him, He always listens. He has supplied me with everything that I need. He provides me a home with plenty of food and a wonderful husband. He gives me peace when fear wants to grip my heart. He comforts me when I am down. He gives me joy in the midst of sorrow. His protective hand guides me and keeps me safe. When I am weak, I can depend on His strength.

I wish I could be a more faithful friend to Jesus. It is very much a one-sided relationship because He does everything for me, yet I have cost Him so much. He has even given His life for me. You see, I am a sinner and the wages of sin are death (Rom. 6:23). Jesus Christ loved me so much that He died in my place on a cruel cross. Three days later, He rose from the grave, and He lives now. I will have eternal life in a glorious place called heaven because of His sacrifice. “Greater love has no one than this, than to lay down one’s life for his friends” (John 15:13 NKJV).

Is Jesus Christ your friend, your Lord, and your Savior? If so, tell Him how much you love Him. If you do not know Him, now is a good time to fix that. Call on Him, and ask Him to forgive your sins. Tell Him that you want to turn from your sins and live for Him. You will never have a better friend than Jesus Christ.

Dear Jesus,

Thank You for being my friend, my Lord, and my Savior. I love You. Help me to be more faithful to You. In Your name, I pray. Amen.

DIG DEEPER

Read John 15:11-17. What is necessary in order to be called a friend to Jesus (v. 14)?

HIKING THE TRAIL

It is said that in order to have a friend, you must be a friend. What can you do today to be a better friend to Jesus? How much time did you spend with Jesus this week?
