HELPING HANDS

But Moses’ hands became heavy; so they took a stone and put it under him, and he sat on it. And Aaron and Hur supported his hands, one on one side, and the other on the other side; and his hands were steady until the going down of the sun.
Ex. 17:12 (NKJV)
Have you ever been in a battle that just wears you out? Physical weariness, mental exhaustion, and you just can’t handle much more. Moses was not in the actual battle, but God had instructed him to hold the rod of God up in the air so that Israel would be victorious over their enemy, the Amalekites.
Moses had gone up to the top of the hill to hold up the rod of God, and Aaron and Hur had accompanied him. As you can imagine, Moses’ hands became very heavy holding this rod up above his head. As long as he was able to do this, Israel prevailed against Amalek, but when his hands dropped, Amalek became stronger.
Aaron and Hur were able to help Moses by finding a rock that he could sit on. They supported his hands, taking some of the stress off Moses so Israel would not be defeated.
Thank God for the Aarons and Hurs in this world. Christian brothers and sisters should help one another in times of need. “Bear one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ” (Gal. 6:2).
Do you know someone who is in a battle? Offer them some support today. Watch their children, fix some food, or pick up something from the store… Many times when a family member is sick or hospitalized, these things are a great help.
A death in the family is a sorrowful time, but it is also a busy time, a time for Aaron and Hur. There are so many ways we can be supportive, so make the time to be Aaron and Hur today.
Heavenly Father,
Open our eyes to the needs of others. Forgive us when we get so busy with our own things that we don’t offer a helping hand to someone else. In Jesus’ name, amen.
