WAIT ON THE LORD
By Carolyn Dale Newell
Wait on the Lord; Be of good courage,
And He shall strengthen your heart; Wait, I say, on the Lord!
Psalm 27:14 NKJV
Several months ago, we made a decision to do something. It made all the sense in the world to do it. If you could list the pros and cons, the pros would win by a landslide. However, when I went to God in prayer about this matter, I did not get the answer I wanted. I continued praying, seeking peace on this issue. Days passed, and God gave me a very good lesson in patience, which is not my strong suit. The following day as I was praying about this situation, the answer was very clear – wait.
A couple days went by, and then something happened. God had something better planned for me. Now, I see why He wanted me to wait. Friend, God sees the entire picture. He knows what our future holds.
“For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the Lord, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope. Then you will call upon Me and go and pray to Me, and I will listen to you. And you will seek Me and find Me, when you search for Me with all your heart.” (Jer. 29:11-13).
We can get ourselves in a world of trouble when we do not seek God’s guidance on decisions we must make. He knows the twists and turns our future will take, but we can only see today. I will gladly wait on the Lord because I trust Him. The word “Lord” means “Master”. I would be a disobedient child to ask God to direct my paths only to choose the one I wanted.
May I encourage you – and me – to wait on the Lord. Whether His answer is yes, no or wait, be obedient, and wait on the Lord!
Lord, You have plans for me. Plans I cannot imagine, yet I struggle to wait on those perfect plans. Fill me with divine patience so I can wait peacefully. In Jesus’ name, amen.
