Book Review: “Hope Prevails” by Dr. Michelle Bengtson

“Hope Prevails: Insights From a Doctor’s Personal Journey Through Depression”

Dr. Michelle Bengtson tells her story about depression while helping us understand this very real medical condition. I read “Hope Prevails” at a very low point in my life. I thought depression was part of my past, but a series of events sent me spiraling out of control. Feelings of anger, bitterness, helplessness, and hopelessness left me an emotional wreck.

I knew Michelle had written the book, and I was part of her launch team. She never hesitated when I asked for the book early. Her words were the prescription (along with anti-depressants) I needed.

Michelle explains the spiritual side of depression. This was very enlightening, as it will help many Christians who suffer with depression.

Michelle addresses the stigma of depression, especially among Christians. She discusses joy and the importance of praise. The book is steeped in Scripture. I used it as my Bible study.

If you are dealing with depression or grief, you want this book. If you have a depressed loved one, you want to read “Hope Prevails”.
