Throwback Thursday: In The Dark

IN THE DARK

Then He saw them straining at rowing, for the wind was against them. Now about the fourth watch of the night He came to them, walking on the sea,

and would have passed them by.  –Mark 6:48

Have you been in the troubled sea of disease, job loss, financial trouble, or sorrow? Have you been in the darkness of despair, frustration, or fear? Maybe, you are there right now. Jesus sees you and your trouble. He is with you just as He came to the disciples long ago. He does not leave you out there in the dark to struggle alone. He loves you, and He will help you.

Jesus was alone on the mountain praying. The disciples were in a boat which was being carried out from the coast by the fierce wind. Jesus saw them straining to row against the strong currents. He overruled His own Laws of gravity, and He walked on the water alongside their boat.

At first, they thought He was a ghost. Jesus said, “Be of good cheer! It is I; do not be afraid.” (v. 50). Those are the same words that He is telling Christians today when we are in the storm. There is no reason for fear because He is with us.

Jesus got into the boat, and the wind ceased, and they were immediately at the other side. The disciples marveled at this. Jesus still does things to make us marvel at His works. He has not changed. He is the same, and He will do wonders in our lives. There is no fear when Jesus is near.
