Throwback Thursday: The Unseen

THE UNSEEN

By Carolyn Dale Newell

While we do not look at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen. For the things which are seen are temporary, But the things which are not seen are eternal.

2 Cor. 4:18 (NKJV)

In a few days, I will make the trip to Johns Hopkins. It has been an amazing two years since the last trip when the doctor told me that my vision was too inconsistent to use me on a clinical trial. I relax in knowing that God has it all figured out. I trust Him now more than ever.

As my vision has dwindled to almost nothing, I have seen God more clearly. He has shown me His protective hand when I walk alone on our neighborhood streets. I have seen His blessings when He brings a butterfly into my small visual field. I saw His love when I uttered a small, silent prayer to see a bear at Grandfather Mountain. He answered my prayer, and she sat right in front of me. I have seen grace when He has led my hand to something I had been looking for, something that I could not find on my own.

Ultimately, I have seen how God worked when I answered His call to write. He has opened doors to amazing opportunities, and I have met wonderful Christians from all over the world. I know He is not finished with me yet.

I have seen so much of God’s glory through visually impaired eyes that it doesn’t matter to me if my vision improves. It would be great if the vision loss stopped, but if it doesn’t, that is fine too. I make this trip with total peace that comes from a confident trust in my heavenly Father.

Whatever you are going through today, will you trust Him? Be encouraged that in the midst of your storm He will never leave you, but He will bring you safely to the other side.

Father,

I thank You for all I have seen from You. I pray for the dear Christian who is reading this devotion; that You will show them the mighty awesome grace that You have shown me. Amen.

DIG DEEPER

Read 2 Cor. 4:15-18.

HIKING THE TRAIL

When have you seen the hand of God during your storms? Give Him praise for all His blessings and mercy.
