HOLY SPIRIT GUIDANCE
When they heard the king, they departed; and behold, the star
Which they had seen in the East went before them,
Till it came and stood over where the young Child was.
Matt. 2:9 (NKJV)
We are all familiar with the story of the wise men following the star. It led them to the Christ Child. When they saw Him, they worshipped Him and gave Him gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh. The star led them exactly where they needed to go.
During the exodus from Egypt, the Israelites were also guided by God through the wilderness. “And the Lord went before them by day in a pillar of cloud to lead the way, and by night in a pillar of fire to give them light, so as to go by day and night.” (Ex. 13:21).
Today, Christians are not guided by a star or a cloud, but the Holy Spirit who lives in each believer. “However, when He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth;” (John 16:13a). When we dwell in the Scriptures and we spend time with God daily in prayer, we are guided by the Holy Spirit. When we neglect these things, the flesh can sneak in. Imagine a glass half filled with water – the flesh. The air in the glass is the Holy Spirit. When we empty ourselves – the water, we are filled with the Holy Spirit. It is a continual filling and we should pray for it every day. “Therefore do not be unwise, but understand what the will of the Lord is…Be filled with the Spirit,” (Eph. 5:17-18). Give thanks today to the Holy Spirit for comfort, help and guidance.
Dear Holy Spirit,
I want to be totally filled and controlled by You. I need Your guidance like the wise men needed directing over 2,000 years ago. Thank You for living in me. Amen!
