Reaching The World

Reaching the World

By Carolyn Dale Newell

“…you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria,

And to the end of the earth.”

Acts 1:8b (NKJV)

Several years ago, I had the technological skills of a caveman. I had used a computer many years before with a magnification program because I am visually impaired. It did not work well for me. When my vision rapidly declined my rehab counselor urged me to try the computer again, but this time, it would use speech software. At first, I was dead set against it, but it seemed like the best way for me to continue my Bible study without much vision. Before I started my training, God had prompted me to begin writing Christian devotions.

Not only did the computer open doors for me to encourage others through my devotions, but it quickly became a great way of keeping up with information which was harder to handle on paper with my diminishing sight. I also began using Apple devices with “voice over” features. Technology has changed the lives of blind people. I have apps which identify objects and colors. I have my study Bible and a commentary on my IPad.

Enter Facebook and Twitter. I use them as a ministry. I had felt inadequate in witnessing to others because I don’t get out much, and I can’t see people well enough to start a conversation with a stranger. Now, I can post my devotions, and I can pray for people in every part of the world. I have met Christians from every continent except Antarctica. I have connected with Christian sisters whom I love dearly from all over the U.S. God gave me a way to encourage, exhort and witness from my home. God opened many doors for me through technology.

If God can use me, He can use you too. May I encourage you to seek God’s plan for your life. If you are willing, God will make a way.

Dear God,

Thank You for the wisdom that You have given people to advance technology, especially for the accessibility features for all disabled people. Continue to help me witness and serve You. To God be the glory! Amen.

HIKING THE TRAIL

The Great Commission is to every one of us. Do not let your fears hold you back. That is what the enemy wants. God is faithful, and He will open doors for you.

What If They Reject Me

WHAT IF THEY REJECT ME

By Carolyn Dale Newell

“If you were of the world, the world would love its own. Yet because you are not of the world, but I chose you out of the world, therefore the world hates you.”

John 15:19 (NKJV)

Rejection has been around since Cain and Abel. Joseph’s brothers hated him and even plotted to kill him (Gen. 37:4-28). Moses constantly experienced problems from the Israelites, and his own brother and sister were jealous of him (Num. 12:1). David’s son, Absalom rebelled against him (2 Sam. 15). Without a doubt, Jesus Christ has been rejected more than anyone who has walked this earth.

It is no surprise that as Christians we experience rejection. We are “strangers and pilgrims” in this world (1 Pet. 2:11 KJV). “For our citizenship is in heaven…” (Phil. 3:20). However, that doesn’t stop the pain of friends and family shunning you and even breaking off relationships. Yet, Jesus said, “For I have come to set a man against his father, a daughter against her mother, and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law;” (Matt. 10:35).

The fear of rejection is perhaps the main deterrent for people’s unwillingness to share the gospel. Some people feel more comfortable witnessing to a stranger rather than a friend or relative. However, when Jesus gave the great commission, He also gave the promise that He would always be with us (Matt. 28:20).

Jesus Christ, who knows the sting of rejection will be with us when we witness. He will comfort us when we are rejected. Above all, there is one who will never reject His own, not even when we fail – Jesus Christ. His love is unconditional.

Lord Jesus,

I know that You have experienced more rejection than I ever will, and I need Your grace and comfort to get me through this time. Thank You for never leaving me. Help me each day as I face a world of unbelievers who often turn their back on me. In Jesus name, amen.

HIKING THE TRAIL

Is there someone you need to witness to, but you keep putting it off because you fear rejection? Have you experienced rejection in the past? Ask God to calm your fears and soothe your hurt, enabling you to witness to someone today.
