Why is Friday so Good?

By Carolyn Dale Newell

All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned, every one, to his own way; and the Lord has laid on Him the iniquity of us all.

Is. 53:6 NKJV

Good Friday is often overshadowed by Easter Sunday, but it is the day we reflect on the cross. That old rugged cross which represents love, grace and mercy. It was a day of violence, bloodshed and death, but Jesus rose from the grave three days later to triumph over sin, death, and Satan.

We are sinners, and our holy and just God requires a penalty to be paid for sin. It can never be paid through any amount of good works. Only by the sinless Son of God.

Jesus Christ paid our sin debt on that cross. It is the only way we can be saved. When sinners place their trust in Christ and His work on the cross, they are justified. As they say, “It’s just if I’d never sinned.” In God’s eyes, He no longer sees our unrighteousness; instead He sees the righteousness of Christ.

“I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I, who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me.” Gal. 5:20

It was just as if I had been on the cross. He paid my sin debt, and oh, what a debt it was!

He was wounded for our transgressions. Spikes were hammered through His hands and feet. He was bruised for our iniquities – beaten, mocked and humiliated.

He held the power to come down from the cross, but He refused to use it. He stayed there out of His great love for us. No greater price has ever been paid. No greater love has ever been given. What does the cross mean to you today?

Heavenly Father,

Thank You for Jesus. Thank You for the cross. Thank You for saving a sinner like me. May I never forget the high price of redemption. Amen.

Read Rom. 6:1-14.

Do you have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ? Do you feel the guilt of your sin? Repent and ask God to save you because Jesus has already paid the sin debt.

Resurrection Sunday

By Carolyn Dale Newell

And that He was buried, and that He rose again the third day

According to the Scriptures,

1 Cor. 15:4 NKJV

Resurrection Sunday, Easter…the day our Savior rose from the grave to give us life, but that’s not the end of the story. No, there’s more. He’s coming again and very soon! So I ask you, what does this day mean to you?

Is it an ordinary day? Is it the only day of the year you go to church? Is it just another holiday to gather with family and friends? Is it a day of bunnies and hiding Easter eggs? Nothing wrong with the kids having an Easter egg hunt, but do they know the true meaning of Easter?

What is the significance of Christ’s resurrection? Heaven and hell are real places, and you will spend eternity in one or the other. Jesus loves you, and He died and rose so those who trust in Him will have eternal life.

If you are going to heaven, you will celebrate His resurrection today and every day. You will live for Him, not yourself. Will you be perfect? Not hardly, but that will be your desire. You will hate sin, and you will desire holiness. You will want to go to church. You will want to read His Word, and you will long to spend time with Him in prayer.

Good news! If you don’t think you are saved and going to heaven, you can pray asking God to forgive you and save you. If you are genuine, you’ll see a change in your life. You will hate the things you once loved, and you will love the things you once hated.

I know! I thought I was saved, but it was easy believism. I didn’t live for God, nor did I care to live for Him. That all changed at age 33 when He saved me. Don’t wait another day! It may never come!

I am a sinner, and I hate it. No longer do I want to live this life of rebellion against You. I repent of my sins. I need salvation and I ask You to forgive me, save me, cleanse me, and help me live a holy life. In the name of Jesus, the One who died for me. Amen.

Read John 20:1-23.

Are you saved? Are you completely sure you will enter heaven’s gates when you die? If so, praise Him and fulfill the Great Commission by telling someone about Jesus today.
