REMAINING COOL IN THE HEAT OF THE BATTLE

By Carolyn Dale Newell

And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding,

Will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

Phil. 4:7 NKJV

Christians can endure severe tragedies with peace and calmness. How? Believers must totally trust in God’s promises. God will never leave us nor forsake us. He will never put more on us than we are able to bear. His all sufficient grace is always present. Jesus said, “My peace I give to you…” (John 14:27).

As we pray, like Paul commanded in verse 6 of this same chapter, and we give thanks to God, He will fill us with peace. Many times we concentrate on the answer to our prayers, but the ultimate result of prayer is peace.

It is a peace that comes from God, and the world cannot understand it. It is not found in this world. It guards us – protects us –from fear, worry, frustration, and doubt.

“You will keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on You, because he trusts in You.” (Is. 26:3).

This verse gives us two essentials for peace – focus and trust. As we trust God, and we know that He is faithful, we must never lose focus on Him. Often we look at the severity of the situation, and we take our eyes off God. We even go as far as to borrow trouble by looking at the “what if’s”. When we are placed in circumstances which no one, but God can control, we can do one of two things. We can spiral out of control with fear and worry, or we can pray, trust God and focus on Him. That is when we will feel His peace.

The battle may be raging around you, but you will be calm. God has drenched your soul with peace.

Heavenly Father, help me continually focus on You rather than my problems. You are the problem-solver and nothing is too hard for You. Thank You for the precious gift of peace. Amen.

HIKING THE TRAIL

As soon as you determine to focus on God and trust Him completely, Satan will turn up the heat. How can you remain focused and trusting when that occurs?
